|Review: ripple muscles, six-pack abs and a chisel face. Meet Ronnie – the beautiful hunk whose only work magically appears from thin air whenever his older brother Vikram is in trouble. He would kill the bad guys to a pulp and go back to minding his own business. But in a sudden twist, Vikram is kidnapped in Syria by a terrorist group called Jaish-e-Lashkar and Ronnie sets out on a rescue mission.
Director Ahmed Khan throws every trick in the book to make ute Baaghi 3 ‘an action entertainer, exposing the brutal power and deadly masculinity of his leading man. Tiger Shroff, who is clearly one of Bollywood’s most bankable action stars, packs quite a punch in the high-octane action sequences (directed by Ram-Laxman and Khema Khampadki). His perfect body and attitude make all the stylized action real.
However, he falls short in emotional scenes and comedy. Shraddha Kapoor looks beautiful and brings some good comic relief in the first half. But her character is not very important to the story and therefore, she does not have much scope to perform. Ritesh Deshmukh has an important role, but his character suffers from a certain obstacle, which is never explained.
On one hand, he needs constant protection by his younger brother, but on the other hand, he is also admitted as a police officer despite being so weak. Such inconsistencies in his character graph make it difficult to relate with him. In fact, the story has some loose ends that make it much less convincing.
While the Syrian setting brings in a terrifying experience, most of the villains are too much caricature, except for the main villain Abu Jalal (Jamil Khure). He looks the part and his performance is cool. Other actors include Jackie Shroff, Ankita Lokhande and Vijay Verma.
The dialogues of Farhad Samji are given with a low-laughter joke, especially in the first half and quite a few films in the second half. The music of the film is quite average but thankfully there are not many songs. Disha Patani swings in a stunning item number, which adds a dash of glamor to this stylish action. While the action design (by Ahmad Khan) is impressive, the same cannot be said for the unstable camaraderie and weak CGI.
The display, slow-mo shots, deaf bang and rob baag 3 3 ‘have deadly punch. But none of it can move beyond a weak script that doesn’t go to kill. If you’re a fan of Tiger Shroff, knock yourself out.
